It's important to carefully pick your beaches in Haiti, as unmaintained ones flourish with trash, beached boats and whatever else once could float.

One of the finest meals I've ever had was prepared at the beach for us under the palms at this makeshift set-up with fresh fish and other fine foods, most wonderfully cooked by this excellent chef working at the table.

In route from Port au Prince to Jacmel, head west to the giant conch pile on the beach at Leogane and turn left. Those little cups contain delicious barbecued lambi (conch) with a slice of lime and some hot sauce. The food in Haiti included an excellent variety of fresh fish, fruit, goat, pork, stringy beef, wiry chicken, and delicious lambi, among other things.
